Another: The 50% Edition

So now we're at episode 7 of P.A Works' latest series, Another. I have mixed feelings about this series. Sometimes I'm really into it, but other times it fails to retain my interest. The suspense was great at first, but it didn't last long. By the time the series reached episode 3, I almost dropped it because it felt a little dragged out. I had an intense fear of watching it at night initially, but it really isn't that scary anymore. Before deaths started occurring, it didn't feel like horror but more like a mystery/suspense series. When it did become more 'horrific', it wasn't the type of horror I enjoyed, but it was just gory, exaggerated deaths.

It's become rather mediocre in the last couple of episodes so everything's kind of blended into each other. Not much has happened. There have been a few revelations but nothing felt too extraordinary. The whole situation still feels a little gimmicky. I've been right about a few things and completely off about others, but it's still enough to keep me coming back every week. There are probably a lot of subtle hints floating around but I'm not one to think too much into it.

What I actually really love about this series so far is the art work. Everything is so sharp and beautifully detailed. It's rather nice to look at. The gore is quite shocking sometimes too, for someone who really isn't usually phased by blood and violence at all.

I don't feel like I have particularly high expectations of anime but this series feels a little disappointing so far.
